When Do I Need to Update My Medical Marijuana Card?

You must update your MMJ card every two years. You cannot submit your application more than 30 days before your issuance date. To streamline your renewal application, you should file an application 30 days before your card expires. Renewing a month before the expiration date allows you to complete the following steps:

  1. Receive an evaluation from your doctor

  2. Complete the renewal application 

Your doctor must sign your renewal application before you send it to the authorities. Oklahoma officials don’t intervene in the medical process; they only look for official approval from a doctor.

Additionally, you must use the email address you used when first applying for your cannabis card. If you don’t know the email address, call the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) for assistance. 

From there, you will send your application online. Overall, the renewal process is similar to the original application process.

Where Do I Renew My Medical Marijuana Card?

To renew your application, go to the OMMA homepage, and click on “Returning Applicants.” You’ll see an option allowing you to return to an existing account or create a new one.

You’ll click on an existing account and type in your login credentials. Call OMMA if you don’t know your login info. 

After accessing our account, refer to your license dashboard on the left-hand side. If the patient is a minor, the parent or guardian should fill out the application on their behalf. The license dashboard contains your existing application. 

Click on the “Action” tab to get a drop-down option, and choose the renewal section. You’ll see your card number listed.

Click on your number to see all your information on-screen. Ensure all your information is accurate before submitting the application. 

More importantly, click the two-year licensing option to obtain the standard renewal. Additionally, you must upload identification that includes the following choices:

  • State ID (i.e. Driver’s license)

  • Passport

  • Tribal ID

Enter the number of your identification card, and list the expiration date. After, proceed to the next step of the application, where you must enter your physical address.

  • Note: The physical address and mailing address can be different. However, the physical address must be an Oklahoma address. Plus, the physical address cannot be a P.O. box. 

You can list a different address in the mailing section if you want your card mailed to a different address.

Where Do I Enter My Doctor’s Information?

After listing your address, you must have details about your doctor’s practice. These details include the following:

  • The full name of your physician

  • Practice phone number

  • License entity

  • Physician address

  • License number

Also, note the date your doctor signed your renewal application. The signature date shouldn’t be any longer than 30 days. 

What if I’m on Medicare or Medicaid?

For Medicare or Medicaid recipients, note the appropriate program after you finish completing your doctor’s information. You must also provide documentation substantiating Medicare or Medicaid enrollment.

Otherwise, your application could be denied. You must also provide documentation if you’re a veteran. 

What Other Documents Do I Need?

The OMMA requires a digital-photo upload. Refer to the OMMA homepage for more information about the photo standards.

Further, you must upload your proof of identity and proof of residency. You only need to provide one document if the document (i.e. driver’s license) confirms your residency and address. The ID must be current, and you must send it in color. 

The final doc will be your physical form that prescribes cannabis use. Ensure the doc is legible, or you could face a delay in the renewal process.

After uploading the necessary documents, you’ll pay a $100 renewal fee. The fee will be $20 for veterans, Medicare recipients, or Medicare recipients. 

What if OMMA Denied My Renewal Application?

If you received a denial, contact OMMA for further guidance on resubmission. Your application could be denied because you failed to meet one or more of the requirements. 

What Happens if I Don’t Renew My MMJ Card?

Failure to renew will restrict your access to cannabis treatments that will alleviate your ailment or condition. Your MMJ card will provide access to high-quality marijuana products that are safe to use.
