This means that, at the federal level, possessing, using, or distributing marijuana is a crime - regardless of whether you hold a valid state medical marijuana card.

A state medical marijuana card does not protect you from federal prosecution. It protects you under state law only. This is important to understand if you work for a federal agency, live on federal property, or are subject to federal drug testing.
